Project Description Oak Home is a custom built architectural residence in Abbotsford, composed as a series of gabled volumes arranged around a protected courtyard. The street presence is compact and measured, with deep reveals and carefully placed openings that balance privacy with a clear front to back sequence. Timber cladding and a restrained palette soften the public edge, while the courtyard establishes an internal outlook that reduces reliance on boundary glazing.

Inside, polished concrete flooring grounds the plan and carries through the main living zones. Slimline full-height glazing opens to the courtyard to share light and views across rooms without overexposure. American oak joinery is used consistently for kitchen, storage and built-in elements, detailed with aligned junctions and flush transitions. Curved joinery and a curved island bench introduce softness against the planning grid, and built-in seating shapes circulation without adding partitions.

The courtyard becomes the project’s centre, holding daylight and planting as a constant reference point from entry to living spaces. Built by TCON in collaboration with MRTN Architects for architecture and interiors, the build required precise coordination of gable geometry, cladding set-out and glazing tolerances, as well as tight control at transitions between concrete, timber and tiled surfaces. The result is clear and durable, with form, light and craft held in a consistent relationship.
