Project Description
Enoteca Boccaccio occupies an upper-level tenancy in Balwyn, reached by a discreet stair and organised as an intimate sequence of rooms. Within a compact footprint, the fitout draws three existing spaces into a single, legible plan, using openings and drapery to tune privacy while keeping the venue calm and contained. Arrival is controlled and compressed, then releases toward a central bar and deeper dining areas, with circulation kept clear for service and varied table settings.
Material choices establish a restrained register built on texture and weight. Handmade clay floor tiles run wall to wall to ground the rooms, paired with stone, brass and dark timber. The bar is capped in Carrara marble and lined in fluted granite, while burgundy cabinetry and darker stone accents add depth. A textured ceiling softens reflected light across joinery and glazing, and seating is detailed with timber framing and leather bolsters to hold warmth without excess.
The bar becomes the project’s centrepiece, supported by a wall of wine refrigeration and a glazed cheese room that marks the threshold of entry. Built by TCON in collaboration with Mim Design for architecture and interiors, the works required precise set-out to stone edges, brass trims and cabinetry junctions, alongside coordinated integration of refrigeration, lighting and exhaust within the existing shell. The completed rooms read as deliberate and robust, with craft held in every junction.
