Project Description
Denman Home is a heritage residence in Glen Iris that has been carefully reimagined through a contemporary architectural extension designed by Pleysier Perkins. The project balances restoration of the original home with the introduction of a calm, sculptural addition that expands the living spaces and strengthens the connection to the surrounding gardens.
The existing heritage structure establishes the character and street presence of the home, while the new architectural work unfolds behind it across the expansive block. Pleysier Perkins developed a refined language of curved masonry forms and soft white surfaces that contrast with the traditional architecture while maintaining a quiet and respectful relationship to the original house.
Internally, the new spaces prioritise natural light, proportion and visual connection to the landscape designed by Vivid Green Landscapes. Curved walls guide movement through the home and introduce a softness to the architecture, while large openings extend the primary living areas directly into the garden. The restrained palette allows light, texture and shadow to define the character of the interior spaces.
Constructed by TCON, the project required detailed coordination between heritage restoration and contemporary construction. The curved architectural forms and precise junctions demanded careful execution, ensuring the new work integrates seamlessly with the retained structure while establishing a distinct architectural identity within the generous Glen Iris garden setting.
