Project Description Scott Bungalow revises a Californian bungalow in Kew through a heritage extension and internal reconfiguration that improves daylight, privacy and everyday flow. The street-facing rooms remain intact and the new work is held to the rear, keeping the original roofline dominant from the public side. Garden openings are expanded where they can be screened, drawing the plan toward outdoor space while limiting views from neighbouring sites.

Internally, the palette is restrained and construction-led. European oak flooring runs through the principal rooms, with integrated two pack joinery used to consolidate storage and services so circulation stays clear. Skylights and targeted high-level glazing introduce overhead light to deeper areas, while mosaic tile and splashback glazing add fine-grain texture in kitchen and wet zones. Bathrooms are resolved with clean junctions and calibrated lighting to keep the interior language consistent.

An open stair void becomes the hinge within the plan, organising movement and bringing light into the centre of the house. Built by TCON in collaboration with John Say Designs and Emily Watters Design, with landscape design by Seyffer Designs, delivery required careful matching of floor levels and roof junctions across old and new fabric, alongside precise set-out to joinery and full-height glazing. Hydronic heating and concrete elements were coordinated early to maintain comfort and durability without adding bulk to ceilings or thresholds.
