Milton, Canterbury

Milton is a Federation home in Canterbury, retained and restored by TCON above a new full basement, with a contemporary two storey extension to the rear. Design by John Say Designs with John Say and Emily Watters, and landscape by Seyffer Designs. Completed in 2023.

Excavating a full basement beneath a retained period house is the hardest way to build one. The house above was held and protected while the basement went in beneath it, and the period rooms were restored as the new work took shape below and behind them.

The gallery on this page runs in build order, from the original house through the works to the completed home. Built by TCON; design by John Say Designs; landscape by Seyffer Designs.
