TCON is a controlled architectural building team based in Surrey Hills, with people working across estimating, operations, project management, contract administration, site leadership, finance and carpentry. The work includes new architectural homes, heritage renovations, basements, detailed interiors and coordinated external works across Melbourne's inner east, inner south east and Bayside. Office and site roles are expected to understand how their work affects the complete project. An estimate needs to carry into procurement. A document needs to reach the trade using it. A site decision needs to reflect the current design and commercial position. TCON welcomes expressions of interest from experienced people, those changing direction and people beginning a trade career. The controlled project load gives each role direct exposure to live decisions and finished outcomes. It also allows developing team members to learn from experienced project and site leaders.
Roles within TCON
Roles commonly considered include project managers, site managers, contract administrators, project coordinators, estimators, carpenters and apprentices. A site leader needs to read drawings, coordinate specialist trades, maintain program discipline and create the conditions for accurate work. A project or contract role needs to manage documentation, procurement, RFIs, claims and communication without losing contact with the work on site. Estimating requires measured pricing, scope discipline and an understanding of how design decisions become trade packages. Carpentry and apprentice roles involve live architectural and heritage construction under experienced supervision. Vacancies are advertised when available, and general expressions of interest can be submitted at any time.
The way the team works
TCON looks for considered people who raise a question before it becomes a problem, communicate directly and accept responsibility for the work they own. The project environment is structured through named roles, current documents, a live program and regular reporting. Site presentation, safety, neighbour consideration and protection of completed work are treated as part of delivery. The team is intentionally lean, so each person has a visible effect on the client, architect, trades and finished home. Experienced people are expected to share judgement, while those developing their careers are expected to listen, prepare and ask useful questions. Growth follows the quality of the appointment rather than a target headcount.
